CATERING OVERVIEW
Catering allows us to provide customers with our great KFC product and exceptional service for their group dining event. It is a way to reach a new customer base and to build sales in restaurants
Use this Catering Guide to build your know-how and become an expert on catering. Preparation is key to ensuring that you flawlessly execute catering in your restaurants and keep customers coming back to KFC for their catering needs.
Set your restaurant up for success by knowing the basics before you begin the catering program:
Who?
Who is affected in our restaurants?
Catering orders require great execution to ensure fresh, high quality food is correctly packed and served to customers every time.
- Area Coaches lead implementation and ongoing operational support for catering.
- RGMs ensure that their team is properly trained, that they are staffed to support the order, and that all products/packaging is available to prepare the order.
- Team Members greet customers, prepare the food, pack the order, and should be prepared to answer general customer inquiries related to catering.
- Catering Leaders may be staffed in restaurants, or groups of restaurants, with high catering volume to manage orders and drive new business into restaurants.
Who is our catering customer?
Catering customers typically order for 10 or more guests.
Catering has 2 main groups of focus:
- Business-to-business catering serves a business and is aimed towards supporting business meetings, corporate picnics, school events, etc.
- Social catering is focused towards individuals or groups planning a personal function, such as a birthday, family reunion, or graduation party.
- More information about targeting customers may be found in the Marketing section of this guide.
Where?
Prepare orders in your restaurant for customers to pick up. For large orders of 100 people or more, your restaurant may partner with another KFC in order to prepare enough food for the catering event.
Why?
Catering allows us to offer our delicious KFC food to all customer groups and to build incremental sales and profit. Catering also allows us to build a strong presence in the community by feeding people at local events.
Catering Recommendations
The catering program requires much attention to detail and prep work. Having the following metrics in place will help set your restaurant up for success
- Earned a green rating on the latest CFF review with no critical issues.
- Health department score of an A with no repeat or critical violations.
- The ability to staff both catering and base business.
- Obtained required permits, including health department license/permit for temporary special events as necessary. (Some localities require special permitting related to catering.)
- If you own multiple restaurants, you may consider implementing catering in your best performing restaurants first and allow other restaurants to come on later.
Catering Leader
A Catering Leader is a designated role that you may wish to create with a focus on driving sales and executing orders. Catering Leaders support multiple restaurants and fulfill orders from start to finish. Here are the primary responsibilities of a Catering Leader:
- Build sales by visiting neighborhood businesses and dropping off business-to-business kits. Set weekly or monthly sales goals to help grow your catering program.
- Maintain customer relationships by following up with the customer after each order has been completed to ensure a great experience and to ask for repeat business.
- Take orders by phone when a customer calls and record the order on the order form.
- Fulfill orders and develop an execution plan that can be shared with the restaurant.
